Tom has been going long enough that the younger fellows assume he invented the put-in. He did not. He did, however, keep showing up after the years when the club was mostly Brick, a couple of now-departed names, and whoever could take a Friday.
He paddles stern more often than not. He likes a boat that tracks. The Penobscot has a scrape on the right bow from a landing in 2011 that he will not repair, on the theory that a clean hull is a hull that stayed home.
Linda is his wife. The boys are in college. They get mentioned when a weekend runs long and he has to be back for a Sunday supper. They do not come out with us. Tom is different in camp than he is in town — looser in the shoulders, worse at sitting still.
He will host High Notch in September. He always does.
